Positive: The Samsung Blackjack mobile phone comes with a sleek design, a great screen, as well as a full QWERTY keyboard. Additional features include Bluetooth, e-mail, and excellent call quality. Cingular Video and Cingular Music services are also provided on this Windows Mobile smart phone.
Negative: The Samsung Blackjack mobile phone does not come with integrated Wi Fi capabilities. Some of its applications also take way too long to load. Plus, the navigations controls on the phone are cramped.
In short, the Samsung Blackjack mobile phone adds another 3G-enabled smart phone to Cingular’s roster. It is an incredibly sexy device, but it also has some trip ups when it comes to design and performance. Below, we explore the phone in more detail in our Samsung Blackjack mobile phone review.
These days, the name Cingular has become synonymous with smart phones. Not only do they boast the Nokia E62, the HP iPaq hw6925, and the 3G-enabled Cingular 8525 – they now offer the amazing Samsung Blackjack mobile phone – also known as the Samsung SGH-i607.
The Samsung Blackjack is Cingular’s second UMTS-HSPDA-capable phone. It is perfect for those individuals seeking more productivity when they travel. In terms of design, the Samsung Blackjack certainly wins hands down over the T-Mobile Dash and the Motorola Q. While our review copy was a pre-production model, it is hard to say whether or not the Samsung Blackjack will add up to all its hype. But from what we can tell, despite some minor design issues, the Samsung Blackjack scores an A for its 3G capabilities. The Samsung Blackjack is meant to retail for the good price of $199.99, which includes a two year contract.
In terms of design, the Samsung Blackjack certainly rivals the Motorola Q, which claims to be the thinnest QWERTY device the world has ever known. Now the Samsung Blackjack can claim the same. It measures in at 4.4x2.3x0.6 inches and 3.5 ounces, making it much smaller and lighter than the Motorola Q. It comes with all black casing that is stunning attractive. What is more, the Samsung Blackjack is amazingly easy to grip, as it comes complete with a soft touch finish on the Dash. The Samsung Blackjack is very comfortable – with its slim body, it feels a lot like a cell phone.
But if you are interested in the Samsung Blackjack because of its compact body, keep in mind that there are some trade offs involved. The screen is not a touch screen. It is also a lot smaller compared to the Q. Still, if it is brightness you are looking for, then brightness is what you will get – it boasts a 65,000 color output as well as a 320x320 pixel resolution. All images on the screen look excellent.
The only other problem is with navigation. The buttons on the phone can be quite slippery, and the toggle switch can be a lot to grapple with.
Other than these minor issues, the Samsung Blackjack mobile phone is a real winner.
